The other night I went to see Katie Stelmanis and her band, down from Toronto, at a horrible neighborhood bar that smelled like a litter box, in the middle of a tornado. There were maybe 20 people there, which is to say that the other 6 million (or so) ppl of Chicago missed a great thing. They only did five songs–one of which I will post video of later when I get it all together–but they were all enchanting. Of the several women on stage with KS–all of them are artists on their own outside the band–including the back up singers–who are twins and also better know around Nova Scotia as the duo Ghost Bees. I think they had just started playing with KS, because they were reading the songs out of folders as they sang. Here’s a thing from Youtube of them singing on their porch:
